The young mother sits on the stone step between two pillars. There are three children in her arms: one is sleeping, one is sucking, and another is watching their mom. By her feet are two children: one is curling up and staring at the presumable passers-by, the other is looking down at something, maybe the piece of paper. The mother's face looks peaceful with her eyes closed. One of her feet is treading on a pot, out of which some coins are pouring onto the ground.

The meaning of charity here, I think, is not only almsgiving, but also love.
