Vatican officials said the sketch was found by accident when a researcher was tidying the Cathedral literatures. The Vatican official newspaper, "Rome Observer" , reported that this red chalk drawing is for the workers to cut stone for the construction project of the cathedral's dome, and is supposed to be painted in the year of 1563, one year before Michelangelo's death. Report said that since a director of Cathedral recorded the relevant information of the delivery of construction materials on the back of the sketch that year, this sketch can be retained.
Latin Church said that on 10th this sketch will be handed over to the experts to be identified. Experts team is including Lurgi, the appointed head of Vatican Museum. Identification result will be published to the media and the public on an appropriate day.
