Michelangelo's oil paintings are the most valuable collection for the British Royal Collection, the British Museum and Oxford University Museum of Ashmore. It is said that the works showed Michelangelo's creative process. However, new research shows that some of these oil paintings may not be out of the hands of Michelangelo. Three scholars in University of Hamburg and Leipzig, Germany who published an author pointed out that some of Michelangelo paintings may be counterfeit in the Britain's collection, and this kind of works keep Michelangelo's works account for 40% of the world works. These 3 scholars says that according to his contemporaries, the reason why hundreds of Michelangelo paintings failed to spread to the world is he destroyed most of the oil paintings .
Frank Thurner ,the professor in Leipzig University who study the Renaissance art said, 'the scholars tried to name a large number of oil paintings attributed to Michelangelo and those people who think Michelangelo handed down a large number of work, is the person who active in the Heritage Business or the Museum Curator who has a large of collection of works of Michelangelo.'
According to their study, some of the collections may not be out of the hands of Michelangelo, including "Christ ascended to heaven" and other works for Royal Collection.Thurner said, take the same subject for example,Michelangelo's oil painting are much better than the oil paintingsof The Royal Collection and the British Museum's collection
