Vase of Roses, 1890
Vincent van Gogh
Just prior to his departure from the asylum at Saint, in May 1890, Van Gogh painted four still lifes, which he described as "Great bunches of flowers, violet irises, big bouquets of roses. . . ."
The roses and the tabletop, now faded, were originally pale pink, like the background of the Museum''''''''s "Irises" (58.187), which belongs to the same group.
