Wheat Field with Cypresses, 1889

Like the Museum's "Cypresses" (also hanging in this room), this work was painted in June 1889, one month after Van Gogh's arrival at the asylum in Saint-Roy.
The artist later painted two variants of the same composition (National Gallery, London, and private collection) and he also executed a reed pen drawing after it (Rijksmuseum Vincent van Gogh, Amsterdam).
